This information is gathered here simply to make it more accessible to members. Only some key duties have been listed; please reference the current Local 44 Constitution and By-Laws for the full duties and powers of each elected official.
Business Agent
The Business Agent is a full-time, salaried, elected position on a three-year cycle.

Chief contract negotiator

Contract enforcer on behalf of all members, represents members in employer disputes

Hire Business Representatives

Appoints Stewards

Mediates disputes between crafts

Debates and vote at all meetings (except craft meetings)

Represents membership as a delegate to all IATSE conventions and potential labor-related conventions

Represents membership at semi-annual IATSE General Executive Board Meetings

Automatically an ex-officio member of all committees

Reports State of the Union to membership
Secretary-Treasurer
The Secretary-Treasurer is a full-time, salaried, elected position on a three-year cycle.

Hires & supervises call board & office staff

Submits budget to Executive Board for approval

Keeps records of all Income, expenses, dues, and fines. Provides quarterly reports to Executive Board & Trustees

Responsible for Local 44 record-keeping, digitizing records, and making them available for member review upon request

Responsible for notifying members of meetings

Reports, as needed, to Executive Board and membership

Responsible for all official publications including the newsletter and website
-
Responsible for keeping meeting minutes & making them available to members to review upon request

Represents membership as a delegate to all IATSE conventions and potential labor-related conventions

Represents membership at semi-annual IATSE General Executive Board Meetings

Automatically an ex-officio member of all committees
President
The President is elected on a three-year cycle and receives a stipend for their services. It is not a full-time position.

Must comply with and enforce L44 Constitution and By-Laws

Appoints a Parliamentarian to oversee rules of order

Automatically an ex-officio member of all committees

Reports, as needed, to Executive Board and membership

May appoint or discharge members to committees with Executive Board approval (does not include Election or Negotiating Committees)

Represents membership as a delegate to all IATSE Conventions and potential labor-related conventions

May make emergency decisions on affairs outside Business Agent Office & Secretary-Treasurer Office - decisions must be approved by the Executive Board

Acts as chair of all General Membership & Executive Board Meetings

As chair of a meeting, the President cannot speak to a matter without passing the gavel, relinquishing the chair, and their tie-breaker vote - this cannot be returned until the current issue is closed

As chair of a meeting, the President has no vote except as a tie-breaker
Vice President
The Vice President is elected on a three-year cycle and receives a stipend for their services. It is not a full-time position.

Trustees
The Trustees (3) are elected, volunteer positions on a three-year cycle.

Elect amongst themselves who will serve as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees

Responsible for overseeing the annual audit of Local 44's financials (completed by a certified, public accountant hired by Trustees)

Responsible for auditing the books of the Secretary-Treasurer quarterly and reporting findings for inclusion in the Secretary-Treasurer's quarterly reports

Responsible for presenting the quarterly report to the Executive Board
Sergeant-At-Arms
The Sergeant-At-Arms is elected on a three-year cycle and receives a stipend for their services. It is not a full-time position.

Must be present at all Membership, Craft, and Executive Board Meetings

Responsible for allowing only members in good standing & invited guests to enter by verifying credentials

Responsible for carrying out instructions of presiding officers at meetings

Responsible for maintaining order at meetings
-
Responsible for enforcing compliance with rules & regulations at meetings
-
Responsible for recording meeting attendance on forms supplied by the Secretary-Treasurer

Must maintain impartiality--is not allowed vote or voice at meetings
Craft Representatives for Each Craft
Craft Representatives are elected on a three-year cycle and receive a stipend for their services. It is not a full-time position.

Crafts with more than 20% of the total members elect 3 Craft Representatives. Crafts with less than 20% of the total members elect 2 Craft Representatives. Each craft also elects one Alternate Craft Representative.

Responsible for conveying Executive Board information to craft membership

Responsible for conveying craft motions, decisions, and concerns to the Executive Board

Have voice & vote at Executive Board Meetings to oversee, verify, and approve actions of the Business Agent & Secretary-Treasurer

As executive board members:

Approve of L44 budget as recommended by the Secretary-Treasurer

Keep records of all official motions and minutes

Review and approve all contracts for goods and services for L44

Approve the compensation and benefits for all L44 employees and stipends for meeting attendance

Appoint delegates to the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor and the California State A.F.L.-C.I.O

Responsible for deciding legal and factual questions when there is no provision in the L44 CBLS or where they require an interpretation

Vote to fill any officer Vacancies
